The Salton Sea has always been a special place for me. My grandfather took me there at least a couple of times as a small child to fish. Now I’m pretty old so back when I was a kid the Salton Sea was not the desolate weird zone it is today. It’s definitely weird though – strange, abandoned, ugly, and beautiful. All rolled into one. This particular trip was very impromptu. Melissa had on a whim decided in the mid afternoon that she wanted to go. So we packed up and headed out. It’s about a three hour drive to get there from San Diego, so we arrived in enough time to photograph the sunset, which is really where it’s at when it comes to the sea. These were taken on the western shore at Salton City. I think the eastern shore is a little weirder.
